I compose and improvise music. I make installations and create performances alongside work that sits between established descriptors. Also, I regularly collaborate with other artists.
Having grown up in Vienna – fascinated by its glorious musical traditions and ingrained rituals – I have ever since been invested in extending traditional practices of composing, producing, and listening far beyond the established settings of concert music. I am interested in navigating the manifold links between the different modes of human perception, the spheres of presentation, and the roles these play in the communal generation of meaning.
While I regularly use novel forms of technology, I see myself within the age-old and manifold traditions of artists, thinkers, and simple minds trying to make sense of it all.
I have a background in musical academia with a focus on digital sound and music. I have held positions at institutions such as the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, the Royal College of Art (London), the London College of Communication (London), and the Austrian Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence (Vienna). I am a professor of musical composition at the Anton Bruckner University in Linz.
