Exhausted and limp, two ensembles of four putti each hang opposite one another. They are slightly enlarged silicone casts of that guardian angel who once watched over the young artist and his brothers from the wall of their childhood bedroom.
Animated by mechanical lungs, the cherubs rise. They swell and - filled with air - brace themselves against gravity.
After a while of shared fulfillment, the valves open. Air escapes slowly and with it the form and fullness; very softly, yet still clearly audible, hissing and whistling.

Together, the angelic choirs thus sing—always in their final breaths—the antiphon of the Nunc Dimittis: “Be our salvation, O Lord, while we are awake; protect us as we sleep, […] so that we may awaken in peace.”
One by one, the whispering cherubs sag, until in the end they once again hang limp and powerless, completely surrendered to gravity.

Silence returns until, a few minutes later, the pumps once more begin to move, slowly filling the heavenly choir anew with their breath.
